7 Favorite Healthy Beauty Products

After discovering Vitacost, a magical website stocked with tons of natural products, and beauty vloggers like vlogwithkendra, My Green Gypsy, lemusingsofmoi and pinksofoxy, I’ve been trying lots of new healthy products. By “healthy,” I mean products that are void of many of the chemicals that are ubiquitous in makeup and skincare items and products that are composed of natural and/or organic ingredients. I’m still a novice when it comes to the world of healthy beauty, but I’ve really been enjoying several products that I’ve purchased through Vitacost, Etsy and a handful of other retailers.

Here are seven of my favorites, along with purchasing information:

1: Ripe Coffee Lip Scrub: This product combines lots of amazing natural products, like coconut oil, shea butter and cocoa butter, along with coffee grounds and sugar to make a delicious scrub. I’ve sampled many a lip scrub and this one is by far my favorite! It’s been repackaged into convenient jars since I purchased mine, which makes it even better. (Available at Etsy for $5.25)

2: Mineral Fusion Blush in Pale: This is a gorgeous neutral blush that offers just a wash of luminous color. I love wearing it when my skin is redder than usual as this blush helps to neutralize my skin’s all-over appearance and doesn’t draw any attention to irritated areas. Plus, this blush is perfect for travel because it’s packaging is so slim. (Available at Derm Store for $21.99)

3: MyChelle Minerals Concealer Stick: Another great travel item, this concealer is convenient, compact and can conceal just about anything. I just it to cover red spots, blemishes and my under eye circles. Because it’s emollient, it works really well to cover up any dry patches that have gone red or blemishes that are dried out thanks to a medicated spot remover. Though it’s emollient, it doesn’t slide around on my face. Once I set it with powder, it remains in place and keeps me covered all day. (Available at Vitacost for $10.79)

4: Alba Botanica Hawaiian Deep Conditioning Minute Mask in Real Repair Cocoa Butter: I love this hair mask and it’s my go-to hair product during the long stretches I allow myself between haircuts (We’re talking eight months here!). It moisturizes my hair so well and adds oomph to dry ends and makes frizz disappear. Plus, it smells great! (Available at Vitacost for $6.29)

5: Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Hold & Shine Moisture Mist: This is another go-to hair product I use to combat dry ends and frizz. It nixes tangles quickly and adds a bit more moisture and shine to my hair. You can read more about it here. (Available at Drugstore.com for $7.99)

6: Derma E Refining Vitamin A and Glycolic Scrub: I love this scrub because it’s not too abrasive, but still gritty enough to whisk away dead skin and smooth dry patches. It’s become an integral part of my skincare routine and I use it one to two times a week to give my skin a fresh start. (Available at Ulta for $10.99)

7: MyChelle Dermaceuticals Sun Shield SPF 28: I wear sunscreen everyday (and you should too!) and this one is perfect for that, under makeup or alone. It’s lightweight, non-greasy formula makes it perfect for hot summer days. Most importantly, it doesn’t irritate my eyes, which is an important quality for any sunscreen. (Available at Vitacost for $16.00)

5 Items I Use to Get My Brows Into Shape

My eyebrows were always the most neglected part of my beauty routine. Sure I’d tweeze stray hairs every few days and trim them every few weeks, but I never cared much for using brows products and I hadn’t had them waxed or threaded in about five years. But for the last six months or so, I’ve upped my eyebrow maintenance routine and found five products I love. I’m still not one for regular eyebrow appointments at the salon, but we’re taking baby steps here. Keep on reading to learn more about my favorite eyebrow products!

1: Tweezerman Slant Tweezers: I’ve been using Tweezerman tweezers since high school. They’re the best! They remain sharp for years (I know you can get them sharpened, but I’ve never had to!) and I’ve replaced mine once or twice, only because I’ve misplaced them. These tweezers allow for precision and ease. They’re the perfect tool for quick brow maintenance.

2: Eyebrow razor: I use this tool to shape my eyebrows and remove the tiny stray hairs that sit above them. Note that the razors linked here are very similar to the razor shown above, which I purchased at a local Asian market.

3: Royal & Langnickel Silk Greenline Brow/Lash Brush: I love this brush! I use the spooli to shape my brows and use the metal end to comb through my mascara. I always do my brows and apply mascara together, so this is a super handy item.

4: Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel: This brow gel is a dream product for those of us who don’t to spend a lot of time on our eyebrows. This product convinced me to do my eyebrows every morning because it’s so easy to use. It shapes my eyebrows and adds just a hint of color to darken my eyebrows slightly and fill in any bare patches. It’s a must-have in my beauty arsenal.

5: It Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil: This product is my go-to eyebrow product when I’m applying a full face of makeup complete with everything from highlighter to bronzer to a bold lip. I don’t use this product everyday, but when I’m aiming for a polished look I use it to define, shape and, if necessary, lengthen my eyebrows a tiny bit.

Favorites: April 2014

As each month ends, I’ll share 5 of my favorite products from that month. Think of these posts as recommendations of a handful of great beauty items!

Here are my favorites from April:

1: Marc Jacobs Beauty Shameless Bold Blush in Outspoken: I featured this blush in my recent 5 Blushes I’ll Be Wearing This Spring post and I’ve stayed true to my word. I especially enjoy pairing this blush with Benefit’s Lollitint, another April favorite! The combination makes for a gorgeous, bright orchid flush that stays put all day.

2: Waxelene All-Natural Petroleum Jelly Alternative: A few weeks ago, I purchased this gem from Pemberley Jones (Be sure to visit her website for the amazing products and stay to swoon over the beautiful photos and layout!) and I’ve been loving it ever since! I use it on any dry patches on my face before applying makeup and it makes those pests disappear. This is a perfect natural alternative to Vaseline and can be used just like Vaseline to do everything from groom eyebrows to soothe scrapes.

3: Giovanni Frizz Be Gone: I finally got my hair cut in late April. Took long enough, I know. During the early weeks in April, my hair was still looking big and fluffy. This product moisturized my ends, tamed the frizz and allowed me to fake good hair days.

4: Benefit Ring My Bella Eau de Toilette: This has been my go-to spring fragrance. It’s sweet and floral and just so yummy. Plus, how cute is the bottle?!

5: Benefit Lollitint: I’ve owned other Benefit cheek stains, like Benetint and Posietint, in the past, but have never been a fan. That was until I found Lollitint! This shade is a pretty and bright orchid shade. It adds a great pop of color to the face and like I mentioned above I love to pair it with Outspoken.
