10 Days of Lipsticks, Glosses, Stains & Balms

I own a lot of lip products, but most days I find myself settling for colorless options, like balms and salves. So I set out on a challenge to use a different lip product every day for 10 days and share my thoughts on those products here. Inevitably, a lip balm (or two) made it into this challenge, but you can’t teach this girl new tricks.

Day 1: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Gumdrop: A lavender lip product wouldn’t usually be my first choice, but Gumdrop is a gorgeous, wearable color. I like the consistency of this product. It’s smooth and moisturizing, but I do wish the color would last longer.

Day 2: Revlon Colorburst Lip Gloss in Cocktail Dress: I love the name, color and packaging of this lip gloss. I’m not fond, however, of the gritty glitter that remains on the lips long after the color has worn away. This lip gloss requires maintenance throughout the day to ensure that glitter doesn’t turn up everywhere.

Day 3: Barry M Lip Gloss in No. 12: Moisturizing lip glosses are a rare treasure, but this is one! I love this gloss’ bubble gum pink color and smooth formula.

Day 4: L’Oreal Le Balm in Caring Coral: Lots of ladies have commented that this product is better than the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters and I totally disagree. Le Balm is probably the worst of the lip products I used over the 10 days. It dried my lips a lot, which is surprising because this product apparently contains argan oil. Plus, the color is so sheer that it would be better to just wear an ordinary lip balm.

Day 5: Boots No. 7 & Poppy King Magic of Lipstick in Allure: This lipstick suits my skin tone so well thanks to its perfect mix of pink and nude. I just wish it would last a bit longer on my lips. I don’t mind having to reapply, though, because the tube is so cute!

Day 6: Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Fairytale: This lipstick’s formula is perfection – smooth, long-wearing and rich in color. Fairytale lasted on my lips for about two hours in its full opacity. It wore off a bit, but left a gorgeous stain on my lips that stuck around through my morning coffee, lots of talking and lunch.

Day 7: Maybelline Super Stay 10 Hour Stain Gloss in Mauve Dream: Ten hours is stretch for any lip product, especially this one. It lasted for maybe two hours and started looking patchy after the first hour. I do have to commend Maybelline on the wonderful applicator, which makes it super simple to apply the product and outline the shape of the lips.

Day 8: Stila Lip Glaze in Kitten: I’m not a fan of Stila Lip Glazes at all because they’re too sticky and just feel heavy. Plus, the applicator tends to get messy. If you don’t mind a sticky lip gloss, this product does last for hours. That’s a great characteristic, but I can’t get past the way it feels.

Day 9: Revlon Colorburst Liptick in Pink Sugar: This lipstick is a perfect on-the-go product because it can be applied without a mirror. I love the soft pink color and the hint of shimmer laced throughout it.

Day 10: Lip Smackers Lip Balm in Dr. Pepper: As a child of the 1990s, Lip Smackers were my go-to (and only) beauty product. As an adult in 2012, I was feeling nostalgic in the beauty section of Target and decided to buy this. Lip Smackers are marketed towards kids, but as an adult I can appreciate the moisturizing formula and fabulously fun scents. Seriously, this has been my favorite lip balm for the last month. It works great, smells yummy and costs less than $2. That’s a win at any age!
